Underground Oil Storage Tanks

District management has recently become aware that there are six underground oil storage tanks at various district properties.  None of the tanks are in use but may not have been decommissioned after the district discontinued the use of oil for heating purposes.  We estimate that the district changed to an alternate heating source sometime in the late 1960s to mid 1970s.

The district has designated funds to engage with a DEQ-certified contractor to determine if any oil is still in the tanks, inspect for any leakage, decommission the tanks, and perform any necessary cleanup.  This project will not be funded from bond proceeds but rather from the district’s maintenance reserve fund.

The district expects to start the project after school ends for summer break in June.  The district will be able to discern further details once the project is underway.
