CCMS student Jake Hale receives recognition from the Oregon legislature for his Oregon Adventure essay

A few weeks ago, I had the honor to accompany Jake Hale and Amy York, his mother, to Salem where Jake received recognition for writing an essay called Oregon Adventure. The essay was submitted to the state in October as an entry for possible publication in the Oregon Blue Book, the official directory and fact book for the U.S. state of Oregon prepared by the Oregon Secretary of State.  In December, the Secretary of State’s office notified us that Jake won Honorable Mention for the middle school level for the entire state! He was presented his award and a signed Blue Book by Dennis Richardson, the Oregon Secretary of State.  He was recognized for his effort on the floor of full sessions of the Oregon House and Senate.  He then participated in a Blue Book signing with the Secretary of State in conjunction with the official release of this year’s Blue Book.  Our Senator, Dennis Linthicum, personally sought him out and invited him for a discussion in his office in the capitol.  Afterwards, our Representative, Mike McLane, invited Jake to his office for a personal thirty minute conversation and question and answer session.  Quite a day!  — CCMS 8th grade teacher, Scott Buchanan
