Readers prepare to battle

Nearly 40 Barnes Butte Elementary students are becoming experts in 16 chapter books and will compete this winter during Oregon Battle of the Books. Academic Coach Sarah Klann and her crew held an OBOB Qualifying Meeting last Friday. To qualify for Battle of the Books, third, fourth and fifth graders had to read two books and pass an accelerated reader comprehension test. The eager readers formed teams of four and divvied up the list of OBOB books, including classics like “Ramona the Pest” and new novels such as “The Wizards of Once.” A few lucky readers even won books, thanks to the Oregon Association of School Libraries. Battles begin at the end of January. Thank you, St. Charles Foundation and Rotary Club of Crook County, for sponsoring OBOB!
