Symphony Stars Introduces BBE Students to the Orchestra

Symphony Stars introduces BBE students to the orchestra

A musician from Central Oregon Symphony gave Barnes Butte Elementary students a lesson on the C flute, alto flute, and piccolo this week as part of the Symphony Stars program.

The program is designed to introduce local elementary school students to the instruments of the orchestra and give insight into the life of a musician. They also touch upon concert etiquette and answer questions.

BBE music teacher Mr. White arranged for musician Stefanie Janin to introduce BBE students to the flute and piccolo. He says it’s a different experience to see and hear an instrument in real life, up close, than watching a video or listen to a recording. Students study instruments of the orchestra in music class, but seeing them in person is very exciting.

Families are welcome to Central Oregon Symphony’s free concerts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 at Bend High School and 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at Crook County Library.

Thank you, Symphony Stars, for sharing your music with BBE!
