Purpose: 

To provide native English speakers the opportunity to learn Spanish and native Spanish speakers the opportunity to learn English while achieving all grade-level skills.


 

Academic Success for Students in Two Languages

 

The Dual Language program at Barnes Butte Elementary provides K-5 instruction for students in two languages. Students learn curriculum in both English and Spanish while meeting all district requirements.

The classes are a combination of native English speakers and native Spanish speakers.  This mix of languages and cultures enriches the learning environment. The instruction is specifically designed for language learners and provides powerful opportunities for student interaction and peer-to-peer learning.

 

Student Goals:

  • Students will perform at or above grade level in all academic areas in both languages.
  • Students will experience a multicultural school environment and demonstrate positive cross-cultural attitudes.
  • Students will become bilingual and biliterate.

Important Information:

  • Space is limited.
  • Transportation is available.
  • Parents and students are asked to commit to remain in the program through the 5th grade.
  • Incoming Kindergarteners must attend the Kindergarten JumpStart program.
