Mrs. Ervin Weekly Objectives

September 6, 2012

Dear Families,

We had a fabulous first week of school.  We spent time getting to know each other and learning to work together.  We practiced fire and earthquake drills, school procedures and rules.  We had a snack every afternoon.  We were hungry!  We heard many stories for knowledge and fun.  We also participated in centers and learned about the upcoming Circus.

We reviewed math skills, started phonics, and worked on handwriting,

We are reviewing reading skills and have started reading groups.

Journal writing with illustrations is amazing.  These kids can spell and write. They have great thoughts also.

First, second, and third graders had their first spelling test on Thursday.

Kindergartners are working on writing their name, learning how school works, cutting, counting, coloring, sharing, and listening.  The five girls are wonderful and fun. It was a big first two days of school being with older kids.  The second and third graders stepped right up to help any kinder kid when asked to.

Open house has been changed to Sept. 19th.  Parents are welcome to come into the classrooms at 6:30 p.m. to see what your child has been doing. The pie social begins at 7:00 p.m. Bring your favorite pie.  I hope everyone can come.

Information on sharing and reading logs is attached.

Please return Circus permission forms and the chaperones $20 as soon as you can. Our generous PTO is funding this trip.  The $20 for chaperones is to offset costs.  Also, there are some neat souvenirs and they are not cheap, so we suggested students might want to bring $20 for a keepsake.

If you need to pick up your child/children before the 3:20 p.m. dismissal time, please call the office by noon.  This will help all necessary staff time to communicate without disruption to learning taking place in the classroom.

Your children are amazing.  The kinder girls are busy and keep us entertained.  The first graders are very serious students.  The second and third graders have stepped up and I count on them to help me each day.

Have a super weekend.
