Congratulations are in order for Suzy Yecha

After 38 years of teaching, Suzy is retiring. Suzy is an English/Language Arts teacher at Pioneer Alternative School. She’s been in public education for the last 38 years. In addition to teaching English, she also teaches cooking/crafts classes. She supports students in their online coursework and helps them as they transition from school to work or post-secondary school.

Suzy said she loves helping students realize they can earn a high school diploma by breaking it down into small, more manageable steps. “I love getting to know our students personally – they are amazing! Many of them are first-generation high school graduates and have overcome some exceptionally challenging issues. I love being able to encourage them when they are struggling, enabling them to feel successful when they complete a difficult class or pass a state assessment or an essential skill. Once a week I teach a group of students a cooking or baking skill in the district’s central kitchen – again, it’s so rewarding to see them make something from scratch that they previously had not made.”

Suzy is looking forward to a bit of traveling with her husband, and being able to spend more time with their two sons, their wives, and their grandson.
