New features added to Pioneer

Pioneer Secondary Alternative High School Assistant Principal Pete Goodrich points out some new features in the building, including photos of students, benches and state flags. Caring members of the community who had heard Mr. Goodrich was planning a flag installation anonymously donated flags from all 50 states. As a social studies teacher by training, Mr. Goodrich was interested in making a connection to history, geography and government for his students by using the flags of all 50 states. The flags also add color to the space and dampen some of the echoes in the high-ceiling hallways. Mr. Goodrich has served as lead teacher at Pioneer High School since 2005 when the school opened. He earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and a Preliminary Administrator License in 2008 and completed his Professional Administrator License coursework this spring. CCSD Superintendent Dr. Johnson recently appointed Mr. Goodrich as Assistant Principal of Pioneer Alternative High School under the leadership of Principal Michelle Jonas. He will also oversee the alternative education programs at Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council and Rimrock Trails and coordinate support for students receiving tutoring services. Dr. Johnson is pleased that Mr. Goodrich will take on his new role, having worked so well with alternative education students for many years. “He never raises his voice, he’s always calm, and he’s so flexible,” she says of Mr. Goodrich.
