Poor Air Quality Closes School on Monday, 09-14-2020

Sunday, September 13th, 2020

Dear Valued Parents,

Due to the hazardous air quality forecasted for Monday, September 14th, on-site school sessions in Crook County School District will be canceled. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is hovering around 275 in Prineville, which is considered very unhealthy. It’s not expected to improve tomorrow.

There will be no on-site school at the following locations:

  • Paulina
  • Brothers
  • Crooked River Elementary
  • Barnes Butte Elementary
  • Steins Pillar Elementary
  • Hybrid Learning Campus at Pioneer

K-3 students will not be engaging in school online, because they don’t have iPads and Chromebooks at home since they started in the classroom last week. For K-3 students enrolled in the Homeschool Partner Program and Crook County Online Option, school will continue as normal on Monday.

School is NOT CANCELLED for students in grades 4-12 engaged in Comprehensive Distance Learning. Those students are expected to attend classes and engage with their teachers as usual.

As a reminder, there is a new schedule for the free meals that are delivered by our Transportation Department. You can find the updated schedule on our website.

We will continue to monitor the air quality throughout the day on Monday and provide families with another update tomorrow evening.

Warm regards,

Dr. Sara E. Johnson, Superintendent
